Part of growing in wisdom is being able to admit that you were wrong. When Cardinal Ratzinger was elected to the office of Supreme Pontiff, I was less then thrilled. What a difference a few years, a little bit of learning and a lot of prayer can make!!
I receive a daily press release from the Vatican, and on Wednesday, it includes the Holy Father's weekly address. I found today's message particularly inspiriational, so I share it with you.
Here is a little taste~
The Gospel says that the disciples were unable to remain awake for Christ, and
Pope Benedict concluded his catechesis by saying: "Let us ask the Lord for the
power to keep awake for Him in prayer, to follow the will of God every day even
if He speaks of the Cross, to live in ever increasing intimacy with the Lord and
bring a little of God's 'heaven' to this 'earth'".

Gifts of the Spirit
There are different gifts but the same Spirit; there are different ministries but the same Lord; there are different works but the same God who accomplishes all of them in everyone. To each person the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one the Spirit gives wisdom in discourse, to another the power to express knowledge. Through the Spirit one receives faith; by the same Spirit another is given the gift of healing, and still another miraculous powers. Prophecy is given to one; to another power to distinguish one spirit from another. One receives the gift of tongues, another that of interpreting the tongues. But it is one and the same Spirit
who produces all these gifts distributing them to each as he wills.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11
May we all live the gifts that we have been given in humble service to God and others.

ReplyDeletea few years before that I thought Catholicism was just superstition. Amazing the paths God has us on - isn't it? I wonder how many other people Papa Benny brought over to the "good side"?
You are right, Ben. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing where you can be led when you actually listen!
