"The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried."
Thanks to Ben at Fallacies and Fashions (see his "Twitter" updates) for this wonderful bit of wisdom from G.K.Chesterton.
Not sure when this was said, but it seems to me that this is more relevant now than it ever was!
wow - someone actually reads my twitter? Thanks for the plug, Persis.
ReplyDeleteThe quote comes from Chesterton's 1910 book, "What's Wrong with the World." Project Gutenberg has it online here. The phrase "Christian ideal" appears only once in the text, so the context is easy to locate.
ReplyDeleteI love project gutenberg and I love librivox - where I am currently listening to "what's wrong with the world". Makes the commute much more enjoyable :-)
ReplyDeleteBen,
ReplyDeletePerhaps you already know this, but there's also lots of good stuff at Sonitus Sanctus.
no - I wasn't aware of that one. Thanks for sharing, Mike.
